Area of Expertise
Dr. Ole Meland has an extensive background in dairy cattle breeding. He received both his Masters and PhD in Dairy Cattle Breeding from Virginia Tech, and then joined the genetic staff of Tri-State Breeders Cooperative in 1984. After only six months he was promoted to Vice-President of Genetic Programs, a position he has held for over 23 years. Dr. Meland is the past chairman of the Dairy Sire Evaluation Committee of the National Association of Animal Breeders and was chairman of the 2005 USDA Animal Improvement Programs Laboratory review team. He also has demonstrated his ability as an outstanding dairy cattle judge, officiating shows around the country and a major show in Colombia. Dr. Meland has served as an official judge for the National Collegiate Judging Contest at World Dairy Expo and was a member of the World Dairy Expo Dairy Cattle Exhibitor’s Committee for 15 years.
