Area of Expertise
Dan McFarland is a Senior Extension Educator with Agricultural Engineering program responsibilities in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties. Educational program emphasis is related animal shelter and environmental systems. He works closely with county Extension educators, and dairy and livestock producers on issues related to new animal shelter design and existing facility improvement. Educational efforts include farmstead design and layout, ventilation system design and management, animal comfort, stall design, feeding area design, animal cooling, watering systems, and manure collection and transfer. In addition to his regular duties he has written articles for national dairy publications, prepared papers for ASAE and NRAES conferences, and been an invited speaker at industry sponsored seminars on topics related to cow comfort and animal shelter design.
